At a recent trip to my local music shop I picked up this mahogany uke that had been traded in & played a few chords. One minute was all it took before I knew I was taking it home!
Turns out that the guy who traded it in is from Hawaiian & living here in town. I looked him up to get the full story (and a jam session!)
He ordered it in Maui about 4 years ago & had them do the custom mother of pearl inlay on the fretboard & the bridge. It is made from Mahogany & is equipped with a piezo pickup. The tone is nice & warm & it sounds beautiful when amplified.
He traded it in for a new Fender uke, as the baritone was too big for traveling with. I must say that I am glad he did!
Braddah Ukes are built by the Mele Ukulele company, which was started by Michael Rock back in 1981. The Braddah Ukes line was introduced in 1995 & represented the lower end of their range, although you wouldn’t know it looking at this one! This is my second ukulele & definitely the finest that I own.
These ukes represent great value, which is achieved because they are built in the Phillipines, with the final assembly done by hand in Maui by Michael Rock himself.
Take a look at some detail pics below! I may post a video later if you are lucky…
